The Chicago Bears signed another free agent defender Thursday with the addition of former third-round pick Rasheem Green.
Green played the 2022 season with the Houston Texans after spending the first four years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks.
The 2018 third-rounder from USC set career highs with 6.5 sacks and 48 tackles in 2021. He started 16 games for the Seahawks that year.
Rasheem Green’s numbers dipped in Houston in 2022. He managed just 3.5 sacks in 16 games played (five starts).
Green, 25, won’t start for the Chicago Bears. He represents another young player who will have an opportunity to earn meaningful reps in 2023. He also lessens the burden on Bears GM Ryan Poles to select an edge defender in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Sure, if Tyree Wilson (Texas Tech) slides to No. 9, Rasheem Green’s presence on the roster won’t prevent Poles from selecting the Red Raider. But with Green in place, the Bears don’t have to force the issue.
Here are some of Rasheem Green’s career highlights through the 2022 season:
