Just when you thought the bizarre Justin Fields trade speculation could get any weirder, it just did.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp did his best Adam Schefter impression when he said on the Bret Boone Podcast that he’s “hearing out of Chicago” that the Bears are looking to trade Justin Fields and select Alabama QB Bryce Young at No. 1 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Listen for yourself:
Sapp wasn’t done there. He also took a dig at Fields, suggesting Young is a “much more capable thrower of the ball.”
Man, this is excruciating, isn’t it? Fresh off a breakout 2022 season, Fields is everything the Chicago Bears could’ve hoped for from their second-year passer. His overall development will continue this offseason, and into 2023, when there’s a chance he can emerge as one of the NFL’s legitimate MVP candidates.
But, hey, Warren Sapp apparently has connections in Chicago. How? Who knows. Who? That’s a better question.
If I were a betting man, I’d wager that Sapp is looking for relevance again after he’s been out of the media spotlight for a few years. It’s hard to imagine he has a legitimate connection or source close to general manager Ryan Poles that knows what the second-year GM is thinking.
Sapp has had plenty of highlight moments during his 13-year career. His Justin Fields scoop isn’t one of them.
