Chicago Bears release preseason star Trevon Coley

Trevon Coley was one of the most productive defensive linemen for the Chicago Bears during the 2022 preseason. Unfortunately, his production didn’t matter all that much. General manager Ryan Poles gave Coley the pink slip Tuesday.

Coley finished the preseason with the Bears’ second-highest pass-rushing grade. He totaled six pressures, including three sacks and two quarterback hurries. He provided Chicago’s defensive front with the kind of relentless penetrating skill set that seemed to make him a safe pick for the final 53-man roster.

Trevon Coley’s preseason performance was good enough to earn an opportunity elsewhere in the league. If, for some reason, he isn’t signed, he’s a strong candidate to return to the Chicago Bears on the practice squad.
