2023 Season
Post-Free Agency NFL Power Rankings: Bears still among worst 5 teams, per ESPN
Chicago Bears NFL Power Rankings: ESPN ranks Bears among bottom five teams in post-free agency NFL power ranking
NFL power rankings are common this time of year. The first wave of free agency is over, and there’s a lull of activity before the 2023 NFL Draft. Rosters like the Chicago Bears are beginning to crystallize, and team identities are taking shape.
The Bears have been active and aggressive in upgrading both sides of the ball in free agency. DJ Moore transforms the team’s wide receivers, and Tremaine Edmunds brings the most upside at inside linebacker since Brian Urlacher.
But with a roster with so many needs, one offseason of activity may not be enough. It certainly isn’t enough for NFL analysts charged with creating NFL Power Rankings, as evidenced by ESPN’s latest iteration of the league-wide ranking.

Chicago Bears rank 27th in ESPN’s Post-Free Agency Power Ranking
The Bears remain among the bottom-five teams in the NFL, according to ESPN’s ranking, which highlighted each team’s under-the-radar offseason move.
The good news for the Chicago Bears is they moved up two spots from the last ESPN NFL power rankings. Baby steps, right?
The 2023 NFL Draft will afford the Bears another chance to improve their roster. Whether it’s Paris Johnson Jr., Jalen Carter, or any of the highly-ranked offensive and defensive linemen, Chicago will improve in the trenches in the first round. At least, that’s the expectation.
There’s a chance the Bears could add more firepower to the offense and select WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Maybe they pull the ultimate shocker and draft RB Bijan Robinson. No matter the outcome, the Chicago Bears will be a better team.
How much better? We’ll have to wait for the next NFL Power Rankings to find out.
