Michael Penix Jr. from Tampa Bay Tech High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Penix Jr. opted to join Indiana.
In 2018 as a freshman Penix Jr. saw action in just 3 games for the Hoosiers as he threw for only 219 yards on 34 attempts with a completion percent of 61.8 for an average of 6.4 yards per pass, with only one TD, while taking no sacks, and QB rating of 90.2.
