Joe Milton III from Olympia High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Milton III opted to join Michigan.

In 2018 as a freshman Milton III saw action in just 3 games for the Wolverines as he threw for only 58 yards on 4 attempts with a completion percent of 75 for an average of 14.5 yards per pass, with no TDs, while taking one sack, and QB rating of 77.1.

In 2019 as a sophomore he played in just 3 games as he passed for only 59 yards on 7 attempts with a completion percent of 42.9 for an average of 8.4 yards per pass, with just one TD, while also taking one sack, and putting up QB rating of 72.9.

As a junior in 2020 Milton III played a total of 6 games.
