Did the Chicago Bears land one of this year's best under-the-radar signings in the NFL this offseason?

Indeed they did, according to Andrew Perloff at Athlon Sports, who recently put together his list of the top 10 such moves across the league in 2024, and the Bears signing veteran tight end Gerald Everett made the cut.

"Everett reunites with new Chicago offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, part of the Rams staff that drafted him in 2017," Perloff wrote. "The Bears have a loaded wide receiving corps and TE Cole Kmet, but Everett knows this coaching staff and this offense. He could be a perfect safety valve for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Plus, he is one of the all-time leaders for tight ends in angry runs."

It's hard to argue with Perloff's logic here, as Everett has shown flashes of talent before as a downfield playmaker, regardless of which uniform he's wearing. Waldron definitely knows what Everett brings to the table, and while the presence of Cole Kmet and a loaded receiver group could limit his overall targets, it won't be shocking if Everett makes the most of his chances when the ball does come his way.
