Last week’s Pick 3 segment went 2-1, with the lone loss attributed to the Bears. We will try to keep the momentum going as we look at some games for Week 2.
Similar to last week, the lines will be taken from FanDuel Sportsbook.
CHIEFS -3.5 @ Jaguars
Patrick Mahomes said he was embarrassed by the Chiefs’ Week 1 loss to the Lions. The Chiefs made several questionable decisions, had a multitude of gaffes, and were still in the game until the final drive. They will be getting Chris Jones and Travis Kelce (likely) back and will NOT want to go down to 0-2 on the season.
The Jaguars, meanwhile, played a relatively tight game with the Colts and struggled to contain Anthony Richardson, who threw for over 220 yards. I expect the Chiefs not to mess around with this one and cover the 3.5
TITANS +3.5 vs Chargers
A battle of 0-1 teams certainly creates urgency for each side. While the Chargers’ previous game against the Dolphins was a shootout, I expect this game to be played at the Titans’ pace, which is slow and conservative. West Coast teams playing in the dreaded 10 AM slot see their win percentage drop to ~35% and ~30% ATS. Couple this with Austin Ekeler and Joey Bosa missing practice on Wednesday, and I would not be surprised to see the Titans emerge victorious in this one.
TEXANS +1 vs Colts
Anthony Richardson may have had the better debut last week, but CJ Stroud has a nice chance to pick up his first win. The 25-9 loss to the Ravens may look bad at face value, but the Texans were able to get into the red zone three times for those field goals, with the last one being in a ‘goal to go’ situation. The game would have looked more competitive if they converted one or two of those into touchdowns.
Stroud has more help with Dameon Pierce, Nico Collins, and Robert Woods, while Richardson will look to Michael Pittman Jr. as his only real weapon.
I think Texas coach DeMeco Ryans will have his defense ready to go and look for a win in his home opener.
