Mario Edwards

Bears release DL Mario Edwards

We have our first somewhat surprising Chicago Bears roster casualty of the day. Defensive lineman Mario Edwards, who many penciled as the likely starting three-tech at the beginning of the offseason, was cut.

Edwards had a rough training camp. He was injured and underwent a position change while other defensive linemen like Trevon Coley thrived. I predicted Edwards could get his walking papers on Episode 4 of The Bears Talk Podcast, which you can check out below (make sure you subscribe, rate and review!):

Edwards, 28, appeared in 27 games for the Chicago Bears over the last two seasons. He was productive from a reserve role, totaling six sacks, including four in the 2020 season.

We’ll continue to monitor all of the Bears’ roster cuts throughout Tuesday.
