2023 Season
Fantasy Football Week 3: These 4 players should be in your lineup
Fantasy Football Week 3: Here are four players who should be in your starting lineups in fantasy football this week.
While it may be difficult to be optimistic about the Bears right now, I hope your Fantasy season is off to a more promising start!
To recap the players I said you should start in my Week 2 fantasy picks, Dallas Goedert got some targets, and Tyreek Hill and Saquon Barkley both had strong games. However, my “under the radar” QB selection of Deshaun Watson did not exactly meet expectations.
Still, it’s early in the season, and we’re going through some ups and downs to find the best candidates who consistently perform towards the top of their respective position groups. There are a lot of fun matchups in Week 3 that make the favorable pick selections very difficult. However, one position is a lock, and unfortunately, I have to make it against the Chicago Bears.
QB: Patrick Mahomes (KC) vs. CHI
The Bears’ secondary is banged up, and the defense has been the talk of the league for all of the wrong reasons. While I’m hoping that Justin Fields can rise to the occasion and perform halfway decently against Mahomes, I fully expect Mahomes to light it up Sunday afternoon when the Bears roll into Arrowhead.
Mahomes’ numbers have improved over the season’s first two games — though one ended in a loss and the other was a one-score win. He hasn’t exactly been what we’re used to seeing — the guy running away with victories.
Still, if Mahomes ever needed a monster “get-right game,” his on-deck duel against Chicago couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Bears gave up 317 yards to Baker Mayfield last week. I am terrified of what Mahomes could do to this defense.
WR: Stefon Diggs (BUF) vs. WAS
While he had a strong outing against the Jets in Week 1, Diggs was interestingly subdued in the matchup against the Raiders in Week 2. For being the prime target of what many initially perceived as an AFC contender, his 66 yards without a score was surprising against a Las Vegas defense that surrendered 450 total yards to the Bills.
Though Diggs only accounted for a small portion of that total offense, he can take over the game when the Commanders host Buffalo on Sunday.
The 2-0 Commanders’ hot start looks good in the record books, but it’s not stellar when evaluating their opponents.
Neither a bottom-tier Arizona Cardinals team nor a declining Russell Wilson are on par with the Bills (and both of those were close games). Diggs will likely be a prominent feature in the Bills offense on Sunday. Get him in the lineups.
RB: Tony Pollard (DAL) vs. NYG (‘Under the Radar’ Selection of the Week)
Maybe this isn’t exactly an ‘under-the-radar pick.’ Pollard just set a career-high in carries and a career-high in catches in the Cowboys’ dominance over the New York Jets. On top of that, the Cowboys have outscored opponents 70-10 through two games.
While the talk of the town is the Dallas defense, let’s not forget how great this offense looks, and Tony Pollard will continue to be a featured part of it.
The Cowboys” schedule shows no sign of slowing down either, as the Cowboys head to Arizona for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Cardinals. I fully expect Pollard to continue to receive a heavy workload that can result in a score against a weak Arizona team.
TE: T.J. Hockenson (MIN) vs. LAC
Hockenson notched two scores in an impressive outing against the Philadelphia Eagles last week on Thursday Night Football. His workload certainly increased after a middle-of-the-road showing in the Vikings’ Week 1 loss to the Bucs. Still, he’s getting targets from Kirk Cousins, and that number could continue to climb against a stumbling Chargers team.
Tight end is always a bit of a toss-up position. Hockenson provides a comfortable selection with the numbers to support it. He’s a viable outlet in the passing game, especially when teams prioritize Justin Jefferson in coverage.
