So much for resting starters in the final preseason game of the summer. The Chicago Bears will play their first-teamers, including quarterback Justin Fields, for the first half of Week 3’s preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns.
Head coach Matt Eberflus met with the media Tuesday and confirmed his plan.
Linebacker Roquan Smith, who ended his hold-in Saturday, will make his preseason debut as well.
It’s a risky strategy to play Fields this week, but it’s one that Eberflus feels is important to establish some identity before the start of the regular season.
Despite most teams treating the last preseason game as nothing more than an opportunity for veterans to rest, Eberflus and the Chicago Bears are attacking it like it’s a game week during the regular season.
The Bears travel to Cleveland to face the Browns on Saturday, August 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm EST.
