Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery will miss Sunday’s game against the New York Giants with ankle and knee injuries, the team confirmed Friday. His status was in doubt since sustaining what appeared to be a serious leg injury against the Houston Texans in Week 3.
The running game will belong to second-year pro Khalil Herbert, who ran for over 150 yards and two touchdowns when he filled in for Montgomery last week. With another big performance against the Giants, Herbert could solidify himself as the primary ball carrier moving forward.
Montgomery isn’t the only Bears tarter who will miss Week 4. Cornerback Jaylon Johnson will miss the game with a quad injury. It’s the second-straight game he’ll be out. Kindle Vildor is expected to replace him in the lineup once again.
The Giants are dealing with injuries of their own. Defensive lineman Leonard Williams will miss the game with a knee injury, as will wide receivers Wan’Dale Robinson and Kadarius Toney.
Kickoff between the Chicago Bears and New York Giants is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EST on Oct. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
