Bears drop 1 spot in 2023 NFL draft during Week 14 bye
Here’s where the Chicago Bears pick in the 2023 NFL Draft entering Week 15 of the 2022 NFL Season…
The Chicago Bears didn’t play in Week 14, but that doesn’t mean the week’s slate of games didn’t have a significant impact on the team.
The Bears entered their bye week with the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but with a handful of other three-win teams already having their bye, Sunday’s outcomes were expected to change Chicago’s draft position. And they did.
The Denver Broncos (3-10) lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, dropping their record to the same as the Bears’. However, the Broncos’ strength of schedule is easier, making their 10 losses worse than Chicago’s. As a result, Denver now holds the second overall pick. The Bears pick third.

Chicago’s slide down the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft may just be starting. Suppose the Bears win another game, and the four-win teams behind them keep losing. In that case, Chicago could go from picking No. 3 to No. 7 overall, putting them out of striking distance for players like Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. or Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter.
Another win will be hard to come by for the Chicago Bears. They face the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings over their final four games.
No Bears fan wants to admit that losing is actually winning, but for the short- and long-term outlook in Chicago, going 0-4 to finish the year will guarantee, at worst, the third-overall pick and a blue-chip defender.
