2023 NFL Schedule: Bears vs. Chiefs Germany game not set in stone
The Chicago Bears may not be playing the Kansas City Chiefs in Germany after all, according to NBC Sports Peter King…
The Chicago Bears are tentatively scheduled to face the Kanas City Chiefs in Germany this season, but according to NBC’s Peter King, there’s a chance the overseas game won’t happen after all.
King, in his Football Morning in America column, said the Chiefs don’t want to move their home game against the Bears to Germany. According to league policy, Kansas City can protect one of its home games from international play.
“When a team gives up one of its home games to play overseas, it has the option of requesting to the league one home game on its schedule the team does not want moved,” King wrote. “I’m told Kansas City requested that the Chicago game not be played overseas.”
Interesting. If this is true, then it would seem that the early reports of the Bears playing the Chiefs in Germany were premature.
I get why Kansas City wants to protect the Bears’ home game. Chicago travels well, and there will be a lot of fans who want to watch Patrick Mahomes vs. Justin Fields in person. It’ll be a high-profile matchup between the NFL’s biggest superstar and a young quarterback who has a chance to be one someday.
The NFL is expected to release the 2023 schedule on Thursday, May 11 at 8 pm EST.
